Have you tried this in the slow cooker…The smell last night when I got in from the cranberry glazed turkey was immense…glad I tried the chicken curry in the slow cooker, just what I needed after our walk on Saturday afternoon…
Being persuaded to buy a slow cooker by another PCCU member was probably the best thing that has happened to me over the last year. Walking into a house smelling fine from a pot of tasty, ready to eat food is a pleasure at the end of the day.
So after a discussion at dinner about the best recipes for the slow cooker and the cold weather that has re-appeared, here are a couple of suggestions from around the office;
Camp fire stew made with a small gammon joint is my favourite; I whack all the ingredients into the slow cooker and leave it on a low heat whilst we’re working. All you need is a chopped onion, some garlic, 2 tins of beans, paprika and some chopped tomatoes. All the family love it.
I love the slow cooker because it takes the hassle away from when we arrive home after work, I am hungry and so are the children, so that bit of preparation before I leave makes a difference. I like Spag Bol in the slow cooker- just brown the meat off and straight into the slow cooker, repeat with onions/peppers/celery-we started with mushrooms but the children complained! Add some chopped up tomatoes & herbs, with a tiny bit of water, heat all day on a low heat. All I need to do is cook the spaghetti. The bonus is with the left overs I add paprika, chilli and kidney beans and we have another meal chilli con carne!
I’ve only just started but I tried baked potatoes the other day, by wrapping them in tin foil, left them all day and just put them in the oven to brown off. It was ok because we haven’t got a microwave at the minute but I’m not sure it was easier.
Personally the best recipe I’ve enjoyed sounds a horrible method to cook but a gammon joint, with some seasoning, carrots, celery, onion and 1.5 litres of coca-cola cooked on a low heat. It’s delicious, sweet and juicy. Sometimes I make a honey/spice sauce to glaze and brown in the oven for 10 minutes.
If you have not already got a slow cooker, you are really missing out!
