When Burnley Area Community Credit Union merged with Pendle Community Credit Union in 2013 we began looking for a new home in Burnley. The Calico Group kindly offered PCCU the opportunity to operate a branch within their main office in the town centre. The highly successful partnership has helped 1200 people to gain access to ethical savings and affordable loan accounts.
A new chapter is on the horizon for PCCU in Burnley as we embark on a journey which will see us move into our own newly renovated premises at 48 St James’s street. The property, located on the main shopping street in the town centre, amongst some of the most well-known stores, banks and building societies will enable PCCU to offer its services to more people in the local community.
Moving location should have no effect for our account holders, who have no need to change any methods of depositing. If you require any further information PCCU are available on 01282 691333, on our website, via email and also through PCCU’s social media platforms.
PCCU will forever be grateful to The Calico Group for offering us the chance in 2013 to operate a branch within their excellent location in Centenary Court, Croft Street. Whilst there 1200 local residents from the Burnley community have opened savings accounts, our partnership has enabled 200 Calico tenants and 93 Calico employees to open accounts. Most pleasing to Pennine is that 80 junior accounts have been opened in that time, which have helped start young people from our community on the right financial path towards saving and money management.
The Calico Group have been a great help in raising awareness about the benefits of Credit Union membership. We have worked in partnership on a number of schemes, including tackling high interest lenders that prey on community, helping resident to pay for expensive home improvements; the work was completed on homes with the aid of affordable loans from PCCU.
Whilst being based within Calico’s Centenary Court headquarters PCCU have issued over £2.1 million in loans. We are extremely proud that we have continued to offer an ethical alternative to the high interest lenders such as the pay weekly stores, pay day loan, and illegal loan sharks that prey on members of our community, whilst still being competitive with large loans up to £15,000.
Without the facilities provided by The Calico Group over the past 5 years our ability to offer access to safe savings and affordable loan accounts to the Burnley community would have been greatly diminished. Whilst PCCU are moving to our new premises on St James’s Street, Burnley, we are certain that we will continue to receive great support from the partnership formed with The Calico Group.
PCCU will announce more details regarding the new Burnley branch opening soon. In the meantime if you have a query or require any further information please contact us.
