For over 34 years PCCU have provided savings and loan facilities to the local community around the Christmas period. We regularly see how joyful the festive period can be but at the same time financially stressful.

Account holders reported that each year funding Christmas could be difficult because they had no way of sectioning off their savings just for the Christmas period. PCCU designed a saving account that has grown in popularity year on year. Last year PCCU members saved £130,000 in our Christmas account. Those who have saved all year with the PCCU account designed especially for Christmas usually start to withdraw their savings at the start of November and always leave the branches rather pleased that they have got a financial head start on the expensive period. At PCCU we also recognise that people sometimes need to access affordable loans for a range of reason during the period. We see a large increase in the number of loan applications we receive as some account holders enjoy being able to spread the expense of buying Christmas presents or hosting friends and family throughout Christmas over a longer period of time, whilst some account holders take advantage of the Christmas break to get away on holiday! Each loan application is looked at individually by a member of staff who will assess the applicant’s financial circumstances and look to spread the cost of Christmas over a longer period, with repayments tailored to that person’s finances.
