On Friday, 23rd April Pennine Community Credit Union celebrated its 39th Birthday. What better time to reflect on our achievements as a community credit union than on our birthday?
A mere few account holders may remember that our Credit Union came from humble roots. On April 23rd 1982, a Saver Group was launched with just 15 members and the first collection produced a total of £75 in share savings. We later registered as Nelson Community Credit Union (NCCU) on August 31st in 1982.
Today as Pennine Community Credit Union, with well over 9,000 adult members we have a collective saving of over £10.2 million. Since our creation we have lent out over £72 million to local people and have assets of over £10 million. These incredible figures indicate both the hard work of our existing and former employees and volunteers but also to the commitment and support of all our account holders throughout these 39 years. PCCU is a real life story of ordinary people teaming up and working together in our community for the common good – People helping people!
Throughout our history we have an outstanding record of serving and helping our account holders to provide a better future not just for themselves, but their families, their children and their grandchildren. We aspire to continue on this path improving financial well-being and build a more vibrant local economy.
In celebration of this special day our very own Cuppa Cake on Standish St, Burnley personalised some super tasty cupcakes for us to enjoy. Our branches were also surprised with some beautiful flowers from our president, Gerard Spain.
The board of PCCU and staff look forward to reaching another milestone next year and celebrating our 40th year serving our local community with ethical saving and affordable loan services.
