One word that means a lot to us here at Pennine Community Credit Union is ‘family’.
When Nelson Community Credit Union launched in 1982, it did so with a mere 15 account holders. While a lot has changed in the 38 years since – including a subtle name change – family is still at the heart of what we do. Our household may have grown to more than 7,000 account holders but we keep things tight knit around here and that is why providing loans for families remains a cornerstone of our work.
Managing the family budget
We understand that keeping to a family budget can be hard work, and that ‘loans for families’ are simply a necessary part of life sometimes.
How difficult is it trying not to overspend at the supermarket for a start? Kids throwing bars of chocolate into the trolley. You staring at the bars of chocolates, shouting at the kids, and then throwing a bar of chocolate in for yourself…along with a multi-pack of Monster Munch. Add in school uniforms and summer holidays, and that’s all before the dreaded unexpected expenses. From car repairs to broken boilers, pet emergencies to a sudden job loss; the second you think you’re getting straight, the universe invariably ends up throwing a spanner in the works. PCCU staff won’t be able to fix the brakes on your motor or stop you from filling your trolley with chocolate but they can ease these financial burdens with affordable loans for families.
Take our family loan and saving scheme for instance, which allows you to borrow up to £500 – ideal for an emergency expense. For this, we assess affordability with no credit check and aim to have a decision for you within one day. Once granted, the money will be in your account that same day. Child benefits are used for repayments with a small percentage of this money placed in a separate savings account ready for a rainy (broken down car) day.
The Christmas countdown is already on
Ready to start talking about Christmas? You’re probably still mince-pied out from December but Christmas 2020 will be here before you know it, and PCCU wants you prepared. Our Christmas Club is an ideal option for families wanting to plan ahead.
The account enables you to save throughout the year but withdrawals can only be made during November and December. This means that when you start your shopping on Christmas Eve you’ll have plenty of money to buy all the gifts and mince pies you’ll need.
Look to the future with young savers
When people think about ‘loans for families’ they automatically think about mum and dad borrowing money to help pay for things. At PCCU we recognise the importance of youngsters learning the value of money and that’s why we started our young savers accounts.
These accounts can be opened by anyone including parents, grandparents or friends and give the little saver in your family the invaluable experience of learning how to manage money from an early age. All young savers accounts are converted into full adult accounts at 18 years old.
