How Community Re-Paint helps the local community
Did you know that of the 320 million litres of paint sold in the UK each year, an estimated 50 million litres goes to waste? This paint is either thrown away or stored in homes or garages despite over 50% of it still being usable.
There is a solution close to home which can be found at SPE Furnishings on Briercliffe Road in Burnley, where PCCU have a branch. Community Re-Paint is a UK wide paint reuse network, sponsored by Dulux, that aims to collect this leftover paint and redistribute it to benefit individuals, families, communities and charities in need at an affordable cost.
During 2017 the 74 schemes that run under the Community Re-Paint umbrella made a real difference
- 432,000 litres of paint were collected
- 300,000 litres were redistributed
- 50,000 litres of that were remanufactured by the Community Re-Paint
- 316,000 people used the scheme to add a colour to their lives
We grabbed a minute with Bill who runs the SPE Furnishing branch of Community Re-Paint in Burnley. Bill has managed to build up an impressive list of supply contacts to keep stock and quality levels up, producing his own paint and the ability to mix colours to order
This year we aim to redistribute 30,000 litres from our SPE Furnishings branch, a large percentage of that would have been destined for landfill. Alongside donated paint we sell new paint from many well-known manufacturers. For personal or trade use, our paint is excellent quality, sold at competitive prices. Everyone is welcome
The Community RePaint network was formed in 1993 and it now coordinated nationally by Resource Futures, with support from Dulux who became the sole sponsor in 2008. Community Re-Paint’s ethos is simple, they intend to
Create communities where everyone has the opportunity to brighten their spaces and their lives
Just as Bill is aiming to increase the number of people the Burnley scheme will help during 2018, the national network has ambitious targets of its own. It aims to increase redistribution to over 1.5 million litres of paint in 2020, allowing them to colour over 1 million lives across the UK. With people like Bill driving the scheme forward – PCCU do not doubt they will reach their target
