The Open Door Centre endeavours to help people cope with the mental and emotional pressures of life by providing a non-discriminatory, non-judgemental and accepting atmosphere with the aims of providing opportunities to enable individuals to develop their potential talents.
The organisation is normally centred around the cafe premises and drop-in facility in Colne and is focused on offering information, advice, guidance and support, without discrimination to the marginalised families and residents in Colne and the surrounding area.
As well as providing low cost, nutritious meals in the community Cafe, they also help to alleviate poverty and need by liasing with a variety of professional, statutory and voluntary services to help remedy the sometimes complex issues that people have.
Other services include free training in basic skills, Information Technology and Art, volunteer placements, free internet access, free counselling services, food parcels and a free hot meal and drink to the homeless and needy.
Pennine Community Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial co-operative where the account holders support local charities each year with a donation. This year we chose to support the Colne Open Door Centre with a £1000 donation
