It is great working in the community, helping people to improve their lives through the simple savings and affordable loan accounts. Our staff had a warm reminder of the positive effect even a small home improvement loan can have to our account holders.
We first met Aaron* whilst he was buying paint from the Community Re-Paint section at SPE Furnishings. He had a desire to improve the rented property he shared with two house mates, to make their house more like a home. Aaron was wary about financial organisations and had experienced high interest lenders taking advantage of people in his community. Aaron had never heard of a credit union and liked the concept of PCCU being a financial co-operative that is owned and run for the benefit of local people.
Aaron wanted to borrow £400 to make improvements in the bathroom and re-decorate the hall and landing in their property. He did not have to do these home improvements, after all the property was owned by the landlord but he wanted to make a difference to where he lived. After completing the loan application, and affordability assessment, Aaron was provided with the starter loan the next day.
Aaron recently dropped by a PCCU branch to proudly show off his handy-work with the small home improvement loan. PCCU staff loved his photographs of the newly renovated stairs, landing and bathroom. Aaron explained that the landlord had been very impressed and was also improving the property after seeing his tenant’s effort – old windows had since been replaced with energy efficient PVC upgrades to keep the house warmer in the winter.
Aaron told us that the loan process had been simple, the repayment plan was manageable and the way that his savings are building up is brilliant
There are no lenders in this area that can match your APR on small loans
After a number of months sticking to his repayment plan, Aaron has successfully applied to top up his loan to pay for his theory and practical driving tests. Next time we see Aaron he may just be looking for a new car!
